Next Stop: Brampton! Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m

I'll be on the road again this weekend, but I won't have to far to travel. I'll be speaking to the Halton-Peel Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society at their monthly meeting. This month, they're meeting in Brampton at the Four Corners Branch of the Brampton Public Library. The topic will be Genealogy 2.0 and what it holds that benefits family history researchers. Visitors are always welcome, so be sure to stop by if you're in the area. The group will hold their business meeting to start, followed by a break where tea, cookies and coffee are available, then onto the presentation. I look forward to seeing you there!

Record Search at FamilySearch.org

Though it's still a pilot, Record Search at FamilySearch.org is an amazing resource. If you know that you're looking geographically, you can narrow by area by clicking on the map. Or, if you want to work very broadly, just use the search boxes at the top of the page. The majority of the information is index entries only, but there is a number of resources where an index doesn't yet exist, but the images are included for your use.

The Wandering Genealogist Wanders Again!

I'll be giving a talk later this evening to the members of the Computer Club at the Sir John Colborne Seniors Centre. They're a lovely group, and I'm very much looking forward to speaking to them about doing research online and how to share that information with others, particularly those in their families who may be at a bit of a distance. I'll be wandering over to the Halton-Peel Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society later this month where I'll be speaking to members and guests about Genealogy 2.0.

Canadian Scots: Consider heading home!

"There's none more Scots than the Scots abroad/There's a place in our hearts for the old sod" is a familiar phrase for fans of the Canadian band, Spirit of the West, and their song,"The Old Sod." What does this lyric have to do with genealogy? Scots are being called home for the largest Gathering of the Clans the world has ever seen during the biggest Highland Games ever organized in Scotland this summer in honour of the 250th birthday of Scotland's own Robert Burns. July 25 and 26 are the dates to plan to attend such an event, and you can learn more about the Gathering of the Clans and the Highland Games by clicking here.
